Stress Echocardiography Test

01.

Do not smoke within 24 hrs

Do not smoke 24 hours before the exam. This includes nicotine patches and vape.

02.

No caffeine within 24 hrs

Do not eat or drink anything with caffeine 24 hours before the exam. This includes decaffeinated coffee, tea, soda, and chocolates.

Do not eat or drink 3 hrs before

Do not eat or drink within 3 hours before the exam.

Med lists & instructions

Follow your doctor’s instructions for medications. Bring a written list of prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, and supplements.

Wear Sports Clothes

Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Female patients may remove bras and use nipple covers for comfort and modesty.

No exercise on test day

Remove jewelry, watches, belts, and any metallic items before the exam.

07.

Don't take Beta Blockers

Notify staff if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have mobility issues.

08.

Bring Inhaler Medication

Bring a written list of your prescriptions, supplements, and any relevant medical history.

What will happen during the test:

You will be asked to undress from the waist up. Female patients will be askedto remove their bras, with the option to wear nipple covers for comfort andmodesty, and will be provided with o gown to wear during the test. Your Skinwill be prepped. A401e patients will have Chest hair shaved os appropriate, andthe skin cleansed With alcohol.

Ten disposable electrodes will be placed on the chest and ECG leads will be attached.

Baseline 2D echo will be performed. After the baseline 2D echo you will be asked to walk on the treadmill at a slow speed and low incline.

Every three minutes the speed and incline of the treadmill will increase. ECG and blood pressures will be taken throughout the test. You will be asked to rate your exertion levels during the test and report any symptoms.

The test will continue until you cannot keep up any longer due to fatigue or until other symptoms (chest pain, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, or pain) prevent further testing or until changes indicate a cardiac abnormality.

If you can no longer continue due to fatigue or other symptoms, lie down on the bed immediately. A 2D echo will be performed while your heart rate is still elevated.

Instructions for after your exam:

After the test you will be monitored until any symptoms disappear and heart rate, blood pressure, and ECG return to normal.

ECG electrodes will be removed and you will be able to get dressed.

Results will be released 5–7 days after the exam. You will receive an email once results are ready. Ensure your email address is correct when you register at the reception area.
